Winter 2016 - Tourism Route Development Workshop series by TCC
The TCC has launched its series of sub-regional tourism route and product development workshops. As it was laid down in the Activity Plan 2016 of the Tourism Coordination Centre, the aim of the Q1 workshops is to create new CEE sub-regional tourism routes with the involvement of tourism business partners who know the particularities of the constantly changing needs of Chinese visitors.
China Outbound Travel Institution (COTRI) helps the TCC in the development process. The first Route and Product Development Workshop was held in Budva, Montenegro on 21st January 2016. The elegant "The Queen of Montenegro" four-star hotel provided the venue for the event. Under the professional guidance of Ms. Minjuan Deng-Westphal, Head of Research, COTRI the participants of 16 tourism businesses discussed the perspectives of the Balkan countries as a tourism destination for 2nd-wave Chinese visitors and devised those sub-regional routes that can be of interest for the Chinese.
The workshop was supported by Mr. Mihály Aranyossy, TCC and Mr. Emil Kukalj, from the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro.
Before the 4-hour common thinking of Ms. Deng-Westphal and the participants, Mr. Emil Kukalj welcomed the attendees. Mr. Mihály Aranyossy, TCC presented the benefits of the tourism cooperation of China and the 16 CEE countries and invited the business partners to the "UTAZÁS-2016" Exhibition in Budapest, 3rd to 6th March, where the final results of the tourism route development process will be introduced and the opportunity of B2B talks with Chinese tour operators will be offered.
The TCC hopes that its main stakeholders, the tourism businesses will be the main beneficiaries of the project by the successful execution of the project results.
CEE tourism route and product development workshops in Warsaw and Riga
Warsaw and Riga workshops – diagnoses is established, remedy will be available in March
Following the Budva workshop, similar CEE tourism route and product development sessions were initiated by the TCC in the V4 and Baltic sub-regions; Warsaw, Poland on 27th January and Riga, Latvia on 5th February.
The Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Polandevelopment, Polish Tourist Organization and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia gave a huge contribution to the success of the workshops in contacting and inviting the China-focussed businesses and organizing the event.
Altogether 65 tour operators and other business providers with main focus on the Chinese tourism market from six countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) appeared at the two venues. Following the concise lecture of Prof. Wolfgang Arlt, Director of COTRI on Chinese market characterization, the workshop participants shared their everyday experience and talked about the shortcomings that they face when doing business. Afterwards, they gave a thorough examination to the possible remedies, the opportunities of the region in providing tourism routes matching the needs of the Chinese market. The Professor encouraged the market players to find the ways of addressing the new generations of travellers. He underlined that "once a region has started to become increasingly the part of the mental map of ‘second-wave travellers from China' on repeat visits to Europe, the increase can be fast."
It became clear from the exchange of views that in terms of Chinese incoming tourism Poland is in its growth stage while Latvia it is still in the introductory stage of their life cycle. The common conclusion at both venues was that the professional events of similar nature, like the workshop series by the TCC represent a great value to the tourism trade because knowledge sharing about Chinese outbound travels and common thinking of all stakeholders are the keys to advancement of the common success of Central and Eastern Europe
The 16 CEE partner countries of the tourism cooperation look forward to the conclusions of COTRI, being presented at the TCC Working Group Meeting on 2nd March and the China Information Day Conference of 3rd March at "UTAZÁS-2016" Exhibition in Budapest.
