China – CEE Tourism Coordination Centre awarded for 'Chinese Tourist Welcome'
The CTW Award gives credit to those organizations relevant to tourism, who show the best performance in attracting and providing satisfactory service for Chinese tourists. Since 2004 the award has been widely recognised as the most important quality marker for the international Chinese outbound market. The selected gold, silver and bronze medals are given to private companies and governmental institutions from all continents and all segments of the industry. An international jury evaluates the applications in five categories: Product Innovation, Internet/Media, Service Quality, Marketing and Overall Performance. The silver medal of the TCC was received at the award-winning ceremony of COTTM Beijing on 13th April by Mr. Ivan Kovacsics, tourism attaché of Hungarian Tourism Ltd.
The latest joint promotion of the 16+1, as the 16 CEE countries and China call themselves, was at UTAZÁS 2016 Exhibition. The People's Republic of China featured as 'Professional Guest of Honour' of the exhibition. The main findings of the tourism route and product development process that the TCC had started in winter 2016 were presented at the 2nd China Information Day Conference. Professor Dr. Wolfgang Arlt in his lecture explained the opportunities of the CEE region to address second-wave Chinese travellers by finding the region's niche tourism products.
China is the biggest outbound source market in the world with more than a 229 billion US dollars spent by 120 million travellers 1. Within Chinese tourists visiting Europe, the share of those who choose Central and Eastern Europe as a destination is increasing steadily. At present three direct air flights connect China with Central and Eastern European capitals. From the Central and Eastern European region Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Poland received more than 50 thousand Chinese tourists in 2015. CEE can expect the arrival of so called ‘second wave Chinese travellers', sophisticated repeat visitors with travel experience, searching for destinations with unique historical and cultural heritage. CEE, considered a secure destination might be further evaluated in the near future.
